JD Barnes is a photographer who, although having lost complete vision in his right eye due to uveitis, takes pride in his ability to see beyond the typical and in doing so create something special every time he picks up his camera. JD takes pride In fulfilling his client's vision; in being the medium by which their vision comes to life.

Beyond client work, JD has a genuine joy for shooting, for perfecting his craft, for trying different things. He enjoys studying the greats, both of the past and present, looking for more techniques and inspiration to deepen his proverbial "bag". As a self-taught photographer, it is important to never become stagnant or satisfied, instead constantly striving to stay not only innovative but elite.

As a POC, JD wants to create work that spans the gamut of the spectrum, to serve as inspiration to the others coming after him as well as his peers. More importantly, he wants others to never feel as if their work has to be constrained in any way, or that POC are only supposed to shoot in a certain way. The language of art, and photography specifically, is universal and can be spoken by anyone no matter their ethnicity, background, or experiences. JD strives to speak that language fluently.

Photographic style, in two quotes:

“You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.” -Bruce Lee

"An artist walks by feeling, by emotion, by intuition. It's what separates us from the technicians of the world. There is no fear of wrong, only of mediocrity." -JD Barnes
